Summer is here and I just purchased the Topsy Turvy Upside Down Tomato Growing System. I love to cook and the tomatoes available at my local grocery market are pretty flavorless and expensive to boot! My uncle is obsessed with growing his own tomatoes, heirloom tomato varieties which are incredibly delicious, so I decided I would try my hand at it and see what’s what.
The Topsy Turvy Tomato Grower is simple to assemble; it took me maybe a total of 5 minutes, not including drilling a hole in the fence to hang it from the included hook. I actually hung it on a plant hanger, but make sure if you do this you use a heavy duty hanger because when the Topsy Turvey Tomato Planter is filled with soil then watered, it gets heavy and will continue to get heavier as your bounty of tomatoes starts growing!
You can place up to two starter plants in the Topsy Turvy Upside Down Tomato Garden but the variety I purchased, ”Big Boy,” was already getting a large root system so I just planted the one. It used to be that you would have to stake your tomato plants and hope that none of them grew too heavy so the tomatoes would rest on the ground and rot. Now with the Topsy Turvy, the plant hangs and the fruit growns downwards with gravity so you can keep it properly aerated, no more mildew spots.
You can also use the Topsy Turvy Upside Down Planter to grow other fruits and vegetables like zucchini, peppers, eggplants, herbs, and more.
